Stacy Asher is an artist and designer who employs creative expression to address social challenges. Her research investigates how forms, words, phrases, signs, and symbols embody values and relationships in human culture and expression. She is engaged in projects examining permaculture design principles that focus on the care of the earth and the sustainable return of resources, energy, and surplus time to address societal and environmental challenges.<br><br>She has collaborated with organizations such as Boulder BCycle, First Star Recycling of Omaha, Vermont Vermicompost, Nebraska One Health, Mongabay Kids, Weather Ready Farms, National Drought Mitigation Center, The Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute, Prairie Pines, and UNL’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources to create effective visual communications and systems for storytelling and sharing of knowledge.<br><br>In 2019, Stacy, along with Aaron Sutherlen, was recognized for the 'Walls Turned Sideways: Artists Confront the Justice System' exhibition catalog, a recipient of the prestigious 50 Books | 50 Covers of 2018 / AIGA Award. The catalog, published by [NAME] Publications, accompanies visual exhibitions held at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and Tufts University Art Galleries, marking the first museum presentation and publication to explore artist-led activism and activist-inspired art questioning the criminal justice system.<br><br>Stacy's involvement extends to coordinating the Design + Social Justice Symposium at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2015, where she collaboratively organized and designed events and exhibitions. This effort examined the role of graphic design as a tool for organizing action towards social change. Other creative work includes establishing visual and digital arts community programs for the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, including an urban agriculture program. Stacy has designed a field guide for The Center for Tactical Magic and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art - Off-Site Exhibition at Angel Island State Park. <br><br>Additionally, she has coordinated exhibitions and publications for international fine art expositions held in Miami, Chicago, New York, and Hong Kong. In academia, Stacy has served as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Ohio University School of Art and has held teaching positions in design departments at San Francisco State University and the University of San Francisco.<br><br>She holds an MFA in Design from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
